The Wonderful Word for this Wednesday is ‘Persist’

Persist.  Just do it.  When things try to get in your way of your goal, persistence is necessary.  Do NOT give up.

UNLESS you come to the realization that your goal is wrong or your motivation to complete the goal is not based in what’s best for you and yours.  UNLESS giving up brings life back to you and the goal is hurting more than helping.

If you know in your heart that your goal is good, then it’s simple – just persist.

Dictionary.com says this is what ‘persist’ means:

  1. to continue steadfastly or firmly in some state, purpose, course of action, or the like, especially in spite of some opposition, remonstrance, etc.

  2. to last or endure tenaciously

  3. to be insistent in a statement, request, question, etc.

Synonyms:

strive, carry on, continue, persevere, prevail, hold on, go the limit, be resolute, be stubborn, follow through

Antonyms:

cease, discontinue, give up, halt, quit, forget, stop

Story Time (telling on myself again)

I’ve been taking a class on how to create an on-line class.  It’s a FANTASTIC class, and I truly love learning.  I feel like I’m in college again and I love it.  BUT, I almost gave up this week.

Why did I almost give up?

Because this class is HARD!  It’s hard for a girl like me with little to no tech skills, with two boys (ages 10 & 13) who are in sports and have birthdays and need a mom who is present, with a husband who has a very demanding job with mandatory overtime on weekends and holidays (like Memorial Day), and with a household of finances, laundry, messes, and meals to cook etc.

Instead of giving up, though, I chose to persist.

I knew my goal was a good one.  I knew if I persisted it would benefit me, my business, and my family.

It helped tremendously that our teacher dangled a carrot in front of us that if we meet each deadline in the class we would be able to have a one-on-one with her at the end of the class to go over our work and plan out our personal next steps.  I wanted this!

Also, I wanted to show my kids how to do hard things in spite of difficulties.  I wanted to show them how to persist even when you feel like giving up and going to sit on the couch and binge watch Netflix.

AND I know myself.  I knew that if decided to let go of the deadline for the class and just finish when I finished, it would take a back to seat to EVERY other thing in life and never get done.  I work best with a solid deadline.

So, I DID IT!  The assignment was to have a published class by the last day in May (yesterday!).  At 10:30 last night I pressed the ‘submit’ button in Skillshare.  It’s certainly not perfect, but I feel amazed at what I was able to learn and get accomplished.

(more to come about the class later so stay tuned!)

I CAN DO HARD THINGS!

The next class will be soooo much easier to complete, and the next and the next etc.  You get the idea.

The Moral of the Story

When you know your goal is good, and your motivation for reaching your goal is positive and beneficial to you and yours, then PERSIST.

Many things will get in your way, some big, some little.  Acknowledge them, then persist, strive, carry on, continue, persevere, prevail, hold on, go the limit, be resolute, follow through, and be stubborn about reaching your goal.

Tell those around you that you are going to persist, let your kids see you striving, and say out loud to anyone who will listen: “I’m going to PERSIST” & “I can do hard things!”.  I’m serious about this, when you know others are watching, seeing how it’s all going to turn out, you need to say it out loud and give yourself that extra motivation to get’r done.

THEN, go sit on the couch with a big bowl of popcorn and binge watch any Netflix show you want.

So, GO FORTH friends, and PERSIST in your goals.
