Why Should You Come to This Workshop?
Whenever I ask people what they want to see in workshops, this is top of the list.
So, If you’ve always wanted to learn to do the fancy writing you see on all the signs and cards, this is your opportunity!
I’ve spent the last several years (since COVID hit!) learning modern calligraphy. I actually spent an ENTIRE month just doing the basic strokes and learning how to draw the letters with a brush pen, practicing daily. THEN, I went on to learn how to connect the letters and form capitals and how to stylize words in different ways, etc.
In the beginning, my work was TERRIBLE! I’m a lefty so it was even trickier for me than most. The new skills, however, eventually turned into muscle memory through practice, and now I can make my own signs and cards and feel proud of my products!
During these past few years, I’ve honed my process into a ‘close to foolproof’ method of producing art with modern calligraphy and I’d love to share it with you.
This will be an opportunity to get an overview and a good foundation in learning modern calligraphy without a large time and money commitment.
Once you have this skill, the possibilities are endless for what you can do. Your handmade cards will be ‘next level’! Your gift tags will be beautiful! You can create all of the sayings you love and put them on your walls or give them as gifts, and you will find more and more places you can slip in beautiful calligraphy.
Lastly, you probably need some time away to just get creative, so come join us in drawing letters in a safe, relaxed, and fun environment.
Here’s what we will be learning in the sessions:
Session 1
This session will be held on November 10 from 6-8pm @Refind Creations Studio in downtown Bellingham.
In this first session, we will learn all the fancy terms that go with modern calligraphy (so you’ll be in the know!), how to do the basic strokes, and how to create all the lower case letters, all using a pencil and graph paper. If we do not get to all of the lower case letters in this session, we will do the rest on a zoom call.
Session 2
This session will be held one week later on November 17th from 6-8pm @Refind Creations Studio in downtown Bellingham.
In this second session, we will learn how to connect letters into words, and how to use a brush pen over your penciled letters and words to produce the thick and thin lines that are a trademark in any calligraphy writing. I will also share the different resources I often use in my work.
Location
Refind Creations Studio is located in downtown Bellingham at 1216 Bay St in the old Hardware Building. Belinda’s studio is a welcoming and WONDERFUL space to take a workshop surrounded by art supplies and art! Come! You will be glad you did.
