The Wonderful Words for Wednesday are “Color of the Year”
Each year since 2000, Pantone has put out a “Color of the Year”.
“The Pantone Color of the Year program engages the design community and color enthusiasts in a conversation around color, highlighting the relationship between color and culture. Pantone selects a color each year that captures the global zeitgeist—the Color of the Year express a global mood and an attitude, reflecting collective desire in the form of a single, distinct hue.” -Pantone Website
What does ‘zeitgeist’ mean you ask? The dictionary says it means: “the defining spirit or mood of a particular period of history as shown by the ideas and beliefs of the time.”
Without further ado, the the color of 2025 is… DRUM ROLL PLEASE:
Oh if only I could hear your thoughts when your eyes first land on this color! I’m trying to warm up to it myself, but the description below is helping me:
“For 2025, the Pantone Color Institute selects PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse, a warming, brown hue imbued with richness. It nurtures us with its suggestion of the delectable qualities of chocolate and coffee, answering our desire for comfort.” -Pantone Website
To see beautiful images using this color and learn all you ever wanted to know about the color of this coming year, check out Pantone’s page for “Pantone Color of the Year 2025”.
One of the really cool things in this article is the color palettes Pantone has created around this color, so be sure to check it out!
Furthermore, the article shows how companies like Motorola, Joybird (a furniture company), and Society 6 (a print on demand company like Zazzle) are incorporating this new color in 2025.
Also, If you are curious like me, and want to see all of the colors of the year since it started, be sure to scroll all the way down to the bottom of that page and they are all shown. It is interesting to know that some years there were TWO colors of the year that went well together. My favorite is from the year 2003, which is your favorite thus far?
Pro Tip: If you are into digital design and are wondering what HEX code matches this Pantone Color, I matched it on Canva and came up with this HEX code: #a57865
So cheers to coffee and chocolate for 2025!
