The Wonderful Word for This Wednesday is “YouTube”
YouTube art videos are where it’s at for me. I can watch someone else do art for HOURS. And guess what? It’s rated G. I haven’t come across any violence or sexual content, nor cheating, killing, or swearing. Only beautiful colors, endless new ideas, and comfy good feelings.
This is the ‘TV” I like most of all. I especially like to watch this type of thing whilst I take a bath. Good smells, warm body, good feels all around.
My Recent YouTube Experience
Last night when I was searching for a good watercolor video to watch whilst I bathed, I found Asia Marquet. Her business is called Lemon Creation, and she has wonderful things on her YouTube channel .
The one I chose for last night was stamping with watercolor:
Since I was still in the bath when it was over, I watched one more of her videos:
Every time I watch a tutorial I pick up on little ideas that will stick with me. After watching these two videos, I was excited to try these things:
- Fall colors WITH Turquoise (or aqua). (I am not necessarily in love with Fall colors for painting, but to be able to paint ‘on season’ with the addition of my most favoritist color was a game changer in my mind.)
- Stamping with watercolors
- Making smaller elements on the side and cutting them out to incorporate into my composition. (This is not a new idea to me, but I like how she took the accent color and used that color for the smaller elements, and I like how they were not something I had to fussy cut, they were just circles.
- Splotching color in the middle of the paper and leaving lots of white space. (Also not a new idea, but when I make a background, I tend to cover the whole paper. I’m always aspiring to leave more negative space and I guess I was just ready to take this in right then.)
These two videos mingled in my mind and marinated in my creative self while I slept, and I woke up ready to paint.
So I got my coffee (coffee first, then the things – am I right?), and got to my little art desk and got to painting and ended up with this sweet card:
I love how it turned out! These colors make me so happy. Also, I tend to love mixed media, which is simply a term that means ‘artworks composed from a combination of different media or materials’.
Whenever I can get out my stamps, my pens, AND my watercolors all at once, I’m like a kid in a candy store. So. Much. Fun.
And then I couldn’t stop:
These beauties are now available in my Zazzle store. There’s only one original card, but the designs can live on this way. If you would like to check them out, see my Stationary & Office Supplies Collection.
Hopefully you will get a chance to watch Asia’s videos and check out her channel. You can find all of the other places to find her on her channel as well. If you do watch, I’d love to hear how you get inspired and see what you create!
You’re Welcome!
